The Fort Liberty Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated proudly announces its 2026 High School Scholarship opportunity.
This scholarship recognizes outstanding high school seniors who exemplify academic excellence, community engagement, and leadership potential. Awards will be based on the following criteria:

Lashawna k. hill (1975-2025
Lashawna attended the University of West Florida and joined the Nu Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in the Spring of 1997. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Epidemiology in 1998. Lashawna attended the University of West Florida and joined the Nu Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in the Spring of 1997. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Epidemiology in 1998.
Lashawna was committed to identifying the causes of different diseases and how they spread, then helping to improve health outcomes for people affected by them. As a former military dependent, she held a deep affection for helping service members.
In 2008, her passions aligned, and Lashawna began her career in public health at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC. Her work with the federal government and Department of Epidemiology was instrumental in protecting the health and safety of the military community and surrounding areas.
Lashawna used her skills and passion for technology to propel her sorority chapter(s) forward. She enhanced her community outreach by serving on the media team at Manna Church and Unity Home Care, in Fayetteville, NC.
Lashawna K. Hill served her community well and with service in her heart. Her compassion for others left a lasting impact on the community she served.

Eligibility Criteria

Be a senior graduating from Cumberland, Harnett or Hoke County.

Have a minimum gpa of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale at the time of submission.

Plan to attend an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) the fall following high school graduation.

Be a resident of Cameron, Fort Bragg, Hope Mills, Johnsonville, Lillington, Pineview, Raeford, Spring Lake, or Sprout Springs

OR Be a Military ID holder *Military status and address subject to verification by the school

When should I submit my application?
The deadline for submission of ALL application is 13 January 2026
Do I need to submit an application for each scholarship award?
A single application will be used for both general and special scholarships. ALL criteria must be met to qualify.

Can I submit one letter for this application?
You will need three Letters of Recommendation.
Student should submit one letter from each of the following:

High School Teacher
-
High School Administrator or Counselor
-
Community Leader (non-school personnel) who supervised or worked with you in a community service activity.
The letters must be on the school’s and volunteer organization’s letterhead.
The persons writing the recommendation should include their contact information and comment upon the following:

The length of time they have known you
-
Your personal qualities, character, leadership abilities and any other special attributes
-
Why they believe you have the perseverance to succeed at the college/university level
What should be included in the resume?
Student should include the following information:
Community Service (Community service activities cannot be school -related, job-related, or performed in the interest of family or self, nor activities for which the student will earn a grade),
High School Extracurricular Activities (school sports teams, school clubs, and school organizations during the last 4 years of high school only),
Honors and Awards (e.g. academic, athletic, community and/or school awards). Be sure to indicate which year of high school you were a participant or recipient
Work Experience (list employer, position, dates, and hours worked).
Can I submit a printed copy of my classes as proof of enrollment?
Only an Official High School Transcript will be accepted (must be signed) This can be submitted as a separate document if you did not submit it as a part of the application.
